Vancouver School of Irish Music is a non-profit organization which aims to foster a community of traditional Irish musicians and enthusiasts here in Vancouver, BC. Our first series of classes started in January 2025, for children aged 7-10, and will run until CelticFest. From April 2025 we plan to add a second class for ages 10-12.
As the school grows we plan to introduce adult classes as well as host concerts and masterclasses from visiting musicians.

Lecture by Seán Gavin and Caoimhín Ó Fearghaíl
We are delighted to announce a lecture by the highly-regarded musicians Seán Gavin and Caoimhín Ó Fearghaíl. Seán and Caoimhín are both masters of the whistle, flute and uillean pipes and have a deep knowledge of the tradition. Their talk will focus on the regional styles of Irish traditional music, complemented by archival recordings, maps and live demonstrations.

CelticFest
CelticFest Vancouver 2025 will be held from March 7-17th. Saturday 15th March (10 am onwards) will be a Family Day at the Famee Furlane hall in East Vancouver.

Children's Classes Starting January 2025!
We are delighted to announce our first run of Irish traditional music classes! These classes are intended for children in the 7-10 age group (approx.) and will run for six weeks in Jan/Feb 2025.

Update
Thank you to everyone who responded to our survey over the summer. Based on the results we are planning to run a pilot series of classes in the New Year. We are inquiring with schools in East Van (via the Vancouver School Board) to arrange a suitable venue. The details will be worked out once we have secured the venue, but will involve a group of children in the 6-10 age range, all on the tin whistle, once a week (weekday evening) for 4-6 weeks. We will send out a newsletter email and social media posts once the classes are confirmed, likely November.
